The information highway has us on overload. These days, you have 3-5 seconds to capture your reader’s attention, so your headlines for your website pages, marketing materials and blogs, have to grab them immediately. Here are some terrific tips for writing great headlines.

Use Interesting Adjectives
Words like effortless, easy, essential and free tend to capture the attention of readers so they want to know more.

Make a Promise
Promise your readers something valuable. For instance, “All Jewelry – 30% Off This Week Only!”

Play on Words
Use a play on words from well-known phrases (from advertising, from movies, from books). Everyone knows McDonald’s catch phrase is “I’m Lovin’ It!” So if you business is helping people get organized, think about titling a blog… “Time Management: I’m lovin’ it!”

Ask a Question
Asking a question often engages the reader to want to read more. For example, “Do You Want Financial Freedom?” For most of us, the answer to that question is yes … tell me more!

Reason Why Headline
Try creating blogs that list the top 5 or top 10 reasons why. For instance, “Top 10 Signs of a Cheating Spouse.”

Testimonial
A testimonial for a notable person has lots of power. “I use XYZ Company because it works,” says Angelina Jolie.
